Why does this my friend have to make a point that he’s hanging with another girl?

Long story short, I used to be friends with benefits with a guy, he cuts it off because he’s seeing someone and it’s serious. I told him that obviously hurts my feelings, but I am okay with being friends and respect his dating life. Now, he’ll text me, ask me what i’m doing (as if he really cares), then will say “i’m just hanging with (Girls name). He does this FREQUENTLY. Why does it feel like he's rubbing this in my face? I don’t know how to address this without sounding like I can’t be his friend, but it’s really starting to agitate. Any suggestions on why this might be, or how to approach him regarding this? Thanks!!

By ripping off the bandaid. Meaning confront him straight, direct. A friend wouldn’t do this shit. Call him out on it. He chose to leave you, now it sounds as though he’s trying to make you jealous. Which ok some men tend to still feel as though an old friends with benefits is still their territory even though they’re w someone. Sounds as though he isn’t w the person he left you for. Is he?

No i think they’re casually dating right now. But i know he really likes her.
