Why would he say he doesn't see us growing old together. fine im accepting it, and then be like we should talk and lay all our cards on the table?

That is a long time to be with someone and then find out they can't imagine being with you for the rest of their life. I guess that happens though. People grow apart. I would take that to mean it was over and no other way. He obviously is saying that at some point you will not be together. So why wait until he decides that is enough for him? Just get it over with now since he is indicating that at some time in the future he is done. Do now and save any MORE heartbreak is what I would be thinking.
