Why do some men lie that they want serious relationship just to sleep with a woman? (Page 2)

Question

Last man I dated, who I thought - was very mature, honest and smart.  He told me from the beginning that he was looking for a serious relationship.  I believed, but I haven’t slept with him because I need some time to build up emotional connection and attraction.  So, turns out, he never intended to stay in China and he was just looking for a one month adventure before leaving China. He left China one week after we stopped dating.  Why would he lie to me that he wanted a serious relationship then in the beginning?  I mean, I am probably naive, but have I not needed deep emotional connection for having sex, I would probably sleep with him sooner or later and I’d end up being very hurt and disappointed because I believe sex must be kept for someone you have feelings for and he obviously never planned staying in China. So I would be lied as he was never interested in a serious relationship.  So, I wonder, why do men find it necessary to lie and lead you on to somehow make you more likely to have sex with them?  Even if they are the type of men who’d never have trouble sleeping with anyone they wanted.

I'm just guessing that some of us men "see" women as a trophy and the more trophies they get, the better they feel about themselves (or bragging rights)
