How does a guy feel if a girl turns him down when he offers to pay for something?

A guy I’ve recently been seeing , we’ve only spent time with each other twice now, offered to pay for my gas for coming to see him (were 3 hours apart) but I told him I’m fine and that I got it because we just started seeing each other and it wouldn’t feel right to me unless we’ve known each other longer.

Would that make him look at me differently? Like less interested? I’m not an “I’m independent don’t need a man” type.. I just I didn’t want him to feel as if he has to pay me for me to make effort to see him.

If he is broke, then he’s probably relieved on the inside. If he can afford it, he may be offended…cause the woman isn’t letting him play the so-called traditional “masculine” role

No, I wouldn't look at it as a bad. It's a good sign that you don't expect him to pay for everything AND you aren't taking advantage of him.

Me personally, I’d probably say and feel something like “Oh, okay. You sure?”.
The goal would be to make her happy, not me. If she says wants to pay, that’s fine. No need to insist. I’d just like for her to know I was honest in my offer.
