imagine this : your guy friend insists on paying for your meals and bills. because "it's okay, friends have each other's back", but when you disclose your lack of romantic interest, suddenly they make you feel like cheapstake?
I always insist on going Dutch (pay for our own food) until after a few dates. I decided to do this as one time I was talking to a woman on PlentyOfFish and she told me she sees dating as free food. She also told me she always had enough in her purse for a cab in case her date left her there, which she said happens from time to time. Get to know who you are dating before you get attached to them.
I think if he offered he should live up to that but once he found out he had no chance his attitude changed.
I went on a date with this girl I met from ok Cupid, I let her pay for her share because she basically said she might be getting back with her ex which was prob an excuse to blow me off, I think if she said a different excuse like she didn't think it would be anything between us then I'd say ok and would of payed but that was a crappy excuse to use either if it was real or fake.
This is why I always reject a guy paying for me. I wouldn't say it's petty, but it does show you want his intentions are. Don't think too much on it

This makes no sense- if he's a friend, he would already know she has a boyfriend, right? And I doubt he'd just decide not to pay after being turned down.
The guy is a wimp and should have instead made clear his intention beforehand rather than putting her in the awkward position. So more cowardly and jerk-like than petty.
