Trending & News He could just be being nice.
But it could be a casual way of inviting you someplace so that he can see you there. And if you show up, it will be a signal that you are interested in him. And that might give him the courage to talk to you after the game and maybe invite you someplace else.
In other words it's possible that he likes you but is hesitant to ask you out without more assurance that you like him.
If he doesn't come up to you after the game, you should go talk to him and maybe compliment him on how well he did. You could even ask if he wants to get a soda or something.
Why do you have to be invited to a basketball game? Is it private/invite only?
Hmm not really.. In previous years I was never really close with the people that played in the games, so I was never really ‘invited’ to come? Like all their friends would go to the game - they didn’t need an invitation it was more like a given. But for the ones that don’t normally go it’s like “oh you’re here” kind of thing? (It’s a bit hard to explain sorry) And I’m quite shy so I’m not confident just turning up and not knowing many there. So now that I’m closer to my guy friend and we now have basketball in common I was a bit confused as to if I could call it an invite or just a general nice thing to say 🙈

Not an official one. It’s an invitation to ask to be invited to something, I’d say. I wouldn’t have used that to show up. But desperate people do desperate things.
Sounds like an invite to me.
