Can I tell if a man likes me by the eye contact?

I like a guy who works in the adjacent office but am shy.. yesterday we had to walk past eachother and I noticed when we said good morning he kept staring even when I stopped looking.

I attempted to talk to him a little later at the coffee stand but he just kept it professional though, so I’m not sure. I can’t completely discount him liking me because if I like someone it will seem the complete opposite but should I judge off of that eye contact encounter? Do men typically keep looking after passing a woman?

If he’s even interested, I think he’s being smart by not acting on it. You two work with each other in a way that if things didn’t work out, you’d be stuck trying to awkwardly navigate around one another, and nobody wants that, especially a shy person like you, you’d be mortified. Also, you don’t know who he’s dealing with him his personal life, there could be another woman or even women in the picture.

I couldn’t deduct that a man is interested based on a moment eye contact alone. It’s just such a generic thing, for me making eye contact is a simple sign of respect.

But I don’t understand why when I tried to speak to him a little after that with small talk he kept it professional? We do work in an office and nobody was around, and when I walked in he stared at me, but why didn’t he try speaking to me?

Not sure, shy maybe, or he's reluctant to start an in-house romance? Everyone's always saying that office romances are a bad idea and they end badly.
