How can you tell how a guy looks at you if you never look at him?

Context: I know that eye contact is a strong indicator of whether or not a guy likes you, and different types of eye contact mean different things. For some reason, I hate making eye contact with strangers or people I don't really know, especially guys. If I'm directly talking to someone though, I always have direct eye contact and, once I get to know someone better and get more comfortable with them, the eye contact thing stops being a problem in general.

There's this guy I kind of have a crush on, and he's not in any of my classes but I see him in the hallway occasionally. I never directly look at him in the face whenever I pass him or whenever I'm in the same place as him, because of what I just explained, which makes things complicated when I try to figure out if he likes me based off of eye contact. From what I've noticed though, using the corners of my vision, he gives me very varied types of eye contact. Sometimes he dead stares at me (or just looks at my direction in general) for long periods of time, especially if I'm in the same room or area as him. Other times, such as when I'm passing him in the hallway, or am in close proximity to him, he basically ignores me and doesn't make any eye contact, or makes quick split-second glances. (I can think of a moment where he said something to me for no reason from a few feet away or he actually stared as I was passing, which makes this even more confusing). During the first few weeks of knowing him, whenever we actually would make eye contact, both of us would just look at each other for a couple of seconds and then either I would look away first or we both would at the same time. In short, he gives me a really wide range of eye contact in different situations and it's confusing. On a side note, it also seems that he tries to get close to me (be near me) a lot on purpose as well. Could someone help me understand what's going on here?

Okay from another confused but informed girl to another about guys, it’s hard to say unless you know him. Personality can really affect how you need to read a guy. For example, if he’s shy and you two have never really talked before, he’s more likely to try to sneak a glance so he doesn’t seem weird if he likes you. But if he’s confident then he might just not have the thought that you might be able to tell or see when he stares at you, so he’ll get as long as he wants as long as he doesn’t end up getting noticed by you or anyone else who would tell you.

Again this all matters if, and how you two know each other. If you don’t know him, then try to connect yourself online or through mutual friends of yours. But if you do know him, at least to the point where you can talk to one another, study his body language as well. Mainly around you, but also around other girls and his friends. If you see he leans in when he talks to you, or unknowingly raises his eyebrows at you he could like you, but it could also mean he enjoys your company. Either one is progress! Well the current guy i like turned his head when i arrived and then later on he was standing in the same position looking in my direction and it felt like he was staring

So, you know him because of eye contact? Oooookay. That's a new one.
So, you talk about how you can't make eye with guys you like blah blah blah, then near the end of your post you talk about how you made eye contact with him at the beginning of the school year. So which is it because you aren't really making sense. So here's the deal: he has likely lost or losing any interest he MAY have had towards you because you won't even look at him. You honestly expect him to approach you with your body language. Also, don't take this wrong, but you are putting WAY too much energy into the staring nonsense. It really means very little.

If I were you, id message him online, say hello, say "i think id like to spend some time with you" and see where it goes from there. Something along those lines is the best approach in my opinion, people will never say no if they have at least curiosity to meet you, and they will never say yes and make you waste more time if they are not into it.
