He says he does not want a serious relationship right now since he is in grad school. Is this valid or bs?

Could be legit. It depends on a lot of factors. I've known people who were completely dedicated and even consumed by grad school.

The last time I went to college, I was like that even as an undergrad - because I was doubling up on classes to get through fast. I was pretty consumed seven days a week. If I didn't wake up every morning thinking about my subject matter, I needed to crack down. I went to class, went to labs, did homework, ate and slept - that's it. There wasn't time for anything else.

Regardless of the reason, he doesn't want a serious relationship. I suppose what matters to you is if there is really another reason and he is just making excuses. There is no way for anyone here to know that. All I can say is that it MIGHT be legit.

If that's the reason he's giving you, then that's all that matters.

I just went through law school and didn't struggle with maintaining romantic entanglements and friendships with people I enjoy at all. That being said, maintaining those relationships brings me joy.

Every friendship and connection that didn't bring me joy/peace died. Grad school is too time consuming to maintain relationships that you get less out of than you would need to put in.

For whatever reason, he has decided that your connection with him isn't worth that investment.

It depends on the situation, he might actually be serious about his career and is worried that he won't be able to see you much or hangout.

Or he's just making some excuses, because we do have phones and can just text.
