How to tell if he’s interested over text?

Just some background info- I've been seeing a guy on and off for just over a year now. We’ve never defined our relationship. We live far away from each other and only see one another like once every 6 weeks or so. I have deep feelings for him but i can never tell what he’s thinking, because our relationship is currently over text.

He’s always said, not just to me but everyone, that he’s a bad texter (i’m not sure how much i believe this as i can see when he’s active).

We talk pretty much everyday, but he will only message me once. The messages 85% of the time are engaging with a question so that conversation carries on. However i notice that he is active and responding to other people throughout the day, but will only ever respond to me once. I can’t tell if this is just him being a bad texter or if he’s just keeping me on ice.

Dude, living far away from each other and only texting makes it way harder to figure out what's really going on for sure. But from what you're saying, it does kinda sound like he's keeping you on the back burner a bit, you know?

I mean, texting you just once a day when you can see he's active otherwise is a little weird. And always waiting for you to engage so the convo keeps going instead of him sometimes initiating feels a little distant. The fact he talks to other people more normally but not you could be a sign.

At the same time, only texting once might just be his style if he's always been that way, so it's hard to say for certain. Maybe try being a little less available for a bit and see if he puts in any more effort. Or suggest doing a video chat so you can actually connect instead of just text. Body language says a lot more than words sometimes.

I'd say have an honest talk with him about where you're both at in this too. If you want more, tell him that and see how he really feels. Better to find out now than keep waiting and guessing, you know? Definitely don't keep yourself on the back burner if he's not willing to put in the same effort as others though. You deserve better than that!

He’s into you: he’s texting you everyday. He’s probably living his life and doesn’t want to be glued to his phone all the time texting. Also, the fact that he rarely sees you limits his investment. Finally, he may not want that type of relationship right now

Haha thankyou for this! we do see each other when we can, but we both work and have limited money. It’s more so when we’re not seeing each other, i’ve spoken to him about it before but nothing changes really but i also don’t want to throw it all away
