My coworker and i joke and play around a lot. But today he made a joke about my weight and laughed about it which i didn’t like and i said “f%#} you” because the joke hurt my feelings then he responded back with “you wish you could f8$) me.. why did he say that

I'm someone who likes to play around jokingly with people too. I'm guessing he is VERY much like me. I have no filter. I don't know when I cross a boundary, so I rely on people who know me to set those boundaries.

I know you're hurting, because you've said so, but I gotta tell you. It's not all his fault.

What you do now, if you haven't already is very quietly. Nobody else has to hear, say to him I was really upset by the weight joke. In future, please, let that subject be off the table!

To answer your question, why did he respond the way he did? He was still in joke mode and carried on as if it was the most normal thing in the world.

Had he known he'd upset you? He would be mortified. I promise you.. At least if he is like me anyway!
