How do I know if it's a date or not?

So I fell for a guy and I'm visiting his city. He told me to let him know when, so he could take a day off just to hangout. As far as I'm aware, there will be only both of us. He's been talking a lot about foods that I should try when I visit him. He's been exhibiting hot/cold behaviour lately in group chat. He worries about me a bit more than a friend would. We've been teasing each other. I'm so scared to ask since we're both friends and I don't want to ruin our friendship.
How do I know if it's a date or not?
