Is it weird and/or a red flag that a guy I just met ask if I can have kids?

I met this guy through my mom (she knows his mother) and he asked if I could have kids, not WANT kids but HAVE and I thought that was weird, it grossed my out to be honest. Worst part is, he didn’t even ME he asked my mom when she was giving him my number! So I would just like to know if that was really a normal or appropriate thing to ask, thank you!
