A classic jockstrap, typically worn in high school sports

The jockstrap (more appropriately called an athletic supporter) was invented in 1874 by C. F. Bennett in Boston Massachusetts. It was created to protect the precious parts of bicycle messengers as they navigated the bumpy cobblestones of Boston.

So, it's 150 years old now.

My Ex was advised to start wearing one for PE at school when he was about 13 and continued to wear one for sports as an adult.

My son had to wear one with a protective cup (box) when he started playing junior cricket.

Yes I guess that's true, both stop things bouncing around too much! My Ex and I once worked out that he got his first jockstrap around the same time I got my first bra.

Only when I was active in the SCA. It was one of the requirements of Armoring up to wear one with cup. As it was told to me then "you take one shot with a rattan stick in the balls that knocks them into your throat you're going to wish you had worn one".😂
