Is it baggage? Or the guy felt free to just express it since you did ask him about his ex. There's always going to be some degree of pain or regret when you think about an ex, that's not baggage. It's baggage if he was dating you but still talking about her all the time, or even staying connected with her "as just friends" when he's not over her.
