Why did my ex keep mentioning this?

I met up with my ex for a catch up and he randomly kept saying that I tend to think I must get married or buy a house by a certain age. I’ve never thought like that at all. I saw him again for a coffee, and he randomly said “you just want to get married”. We split a few years ago, and I haven’t mentioned anything like that. The only thing I’ve said is about buying a house but not immediately, it’s just a general goal I have. Why does he keep bringing up the marriage thing?

When we were together we talked about where we would get married but we weren’t at the point of getting engaged etc before we split

Seems like he felt your focus on those sorts of life goals was a point of tension when you were dating.

Maybe so but it was also something he would talk about as well. We’ve spoken on and off since we split. All I’ve ever said since we split is that I want to meet someone and have a serious/long term relationship but it’s because we were talking about the dating scene and casual/hook ups are becoming for common and that’s not my kind of thing. I said that last year so it seemed quite random.

I would ask him but I don’t want to cause any tension. I was driving when he turned out and randomly said “you just want to get married”. Just felt my cheeks blush when he said that, mainly because we have history

Your first mistake was meeting up with your ex… why do people think it’s a good idea to stay friends with their exes and expect thing to not go sideways? You… can… not… he… friends… with… your… exes…
