Why does my boyfriend always ask when we are apart a few days if I miss him? Is he looking for reassurance?

We live in the same town and see each other about 4 days a week. On the days I don’t see him he will ask if I miss him or when we are together he will ask if I missed him. It seems cute and makes me smile but why does he do this all of the time
