If a guy calls you “lovely” does it mean he might like more than just your looks?

I was at work and he was stood behind me with a little smile on his face and when I turned around and saw him, he looked into my eyes and said “lovely”. He kept smiling at me for a few moments, then walked away.

Am I right in thinking he likes me?
And is it the kind of thing a guy says when he likes who you are as a person as well?

Guys don't usually throw around compliments like that unless they really mean it. And calling you lovely makes it seem like he thinks you're beautiful both inside and out.

The fact that he held the smile and eye contact for a few moments shows he was comfortable opening up to you a bit in that moment. He was taking the chance to connect beyond small talk.

It does sound like he's into getting to know you as a person too, not just looks. Otherwise he probably would have just said you looked nice or something more surface level.

I'd say keep being friendly at work and see if he finds more ways to interact. Maybe next time reciprocate the smile so he knows you're interested too! Subtle flirting could help make him realize he should ask you out properly.
