Long Read: Is he immature or temperamental or just shy?

Met a guy in the break room, asked him a question about the food and when he answered I left to go check the food out. Next thing you know, he's jumping up from where he was sitting in front of the TV to come and talk to me. He asked me if I worked in a certain department and I said yeah and I asked him where he worked. We flirted a bit but as soon as an older man walked in and started talking to me he completely backed away and just watched from afar. Then the man left and I sat down by myself to a table.

We were alone in the room again and he walks past me to the trash. I ask him what movie is on the TV and he shrugs and I tell him I wish I knew cuz I'm interested. He walks over to the TV just as some women walk in and sit down at my table. I get caught up in a convo with the women but remember him and see he picked up the remote and was looking at the channel menu (movie title).

Me and the women ended up befriending each other and laughed and talked. He stayed away until we mentioned something about his department and then he halfway joined the conversation (so apparently he was listening to us this whole time).

After that I got engrossed in the convo with the woman and he eventually stopped looking at the TV and left.

After that interaction he began ignoring me and seemingly went out of his way to avoid me. A week later he comes running up to me asking when I get off work (implying he wants to talk).

What in the world is going on with him. Is he interested or not? What's with the strange behavior? Did I upset him or is he immature?

PS: he looks at me dreamily when I see him from afar but when I say hello to him up close he looks at me and takes off fast barely saying hello. (This is all after the break room interactions).

Woah dude, that guy is seriously acting weird! I'm no expert but here's what I'm thinking -

It sounds like he's really shy and gets overwhelmed easy. Like when other people joined your conversations, he retreated. And he was confident asking when you left at first but then bolted when actually talking.

He's also clearly into you the way he stares from afar. But up close the shyness takes over. Most dudes aren't that obvious checking someone out lol.

It could also be he's inexperienced with flirting and gets self-conscious. Or was raised to think showing emotions is "unmanly" so he shuts down.

Honestly dude seems immature about how to handle his feelings. But hey we all start somewhere! Maybe try smiling and waving when you see him to ease the tension. Or chat him up when no one's around so he opens up.

Who knows, with patience he might come around. But don't stress over it either - you seem cool, you'll find someone better at communication if he can't get his act together! Just roll with it sis.
