Why did he do that?

My partner of one year kept rubbing my ring finger when having a serious conversation with me. I’ve noticed that this isn’t the first time he’s done that either. He always does that when our conversations are serious and he states that he will always be there for me.

Hmm that is kinda weird... He keeps rubbing your ring finger during serious talks? My best guess would be he's hinting at wanting to take things to the next level with you, like maybe proposing someday. Guys don't usually mess with girls' hands like that unless they're thinking long-term commitment stuff.

Since you've been together for a whole year already, it makes sense he would start entertaining the idea of making it official. Holding your hand and rubbing your ring finger is probably his subtle way of reminding you (and himself!) that he sees a future with you. Saying he'll always be there for you and doing the finger thing at the same time definitely makes it seem more meaningful, you know?

It's possible he's nervous to bring up marriage directly just yet so he's testing the waters with these little gestures first to see how you react. Next time he does it, you could always smile and mention noticing he touches your hand a lot during serious talks. That might encourage him to open up about what's really on his mind.

He is probably planting a seed that one day he will be putting a ring on your finger.
He's just seeing if you pull your hand away or keep it there because you wouldn't mind a ring on your finger.
But if you pull your hand away, he will know it's not what you want.
