He asked me and no one else in our friend group. Is it usually a general question, or is it normally an attempt for either said guy or one of his mates to find out if I’m available?
+1 yCould be for himself, could be wingmaning, could just be curious. I'm thinking he's trying to be a wingman. I wouldn't ask something like that without a follow up if it were for me.

Usually, yes. However, not a hard and fast rule; There are many reasons why a man might ask, aside from the generally accepted assumption that he wants to know whether or not you're romantically available. Women as a sex in their femininity tend to think men do everything because of a woman or out of interest of a woman and while usually it is the case it isn't always. Don't look at everything a guy does or says with rose colored glasses. In short, don't seek to delude yourself with your own perceptions and always tap (ask) back.

+1 yInitially think of it as a general question unless they go in depth with it like if they’re seeking more information from you then think otherwise but if they’re just asking, are you single it’s just a regular question like everybody ask are you single sometime? They may have somebody that they might have in mind for you, that could lead to something nice

I’m a very private person and have never been specific about my dating life.

(When I’m offline)
+1 yIf we’re friends he probably knows my marital status and other details of my life so I don’t see why a friend would ask me that.
13 Reply- +1 y
I’d been vague about it in the past. He’s more of a casual friend.
- +1 y
I’m very private about my personal life, offline.
- +1 y
I understand that’s more of an acquaintance than a close friend. See, I wouldn’t have certain conversations or joke about certain things with married people or people who are in relationships maybe he just asked so how knows how far he can go.

+1 yIt seems to me that if you're already friends that he would know this about you. Having said that I think it's a way to find out if you're available.
20 Reply 4.6K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. Could be simply out of curiosity or simply because they cannot believe that a man like can also be single.

+1 yThe only reason I can think of ANYONE asking 'are you single?' is because they are clearly interested.
10 Reply 952 opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. I would say he is trying to find out for a Guy he knows or Himself.

He denies having a romantic interest in me, but hasn’t been specific about why he asked.
- +1 y
Does that mean he’s probably playing wingman for one of his mates?
- +1 y
I don’t feel anything for the flirting guy, but friendship; so I never flirted with him to begin with.
- +1 y
I’ve noticed him doing…stuff, recently, like fluffing his hair around me and standing really close behind me.
- +1 y
What would you suggest I do? If he does like me, he’s approached nicely, so I have no issue with that, however, I feel no spark.
- +1 y
I told him that there’s no spark and no chance of us ever being more than friends. He acted like I was being silly/egotistical for assuming he was interested and he went silent.
- +1 y
He’s my friend too or was and I care about him and genuinely love him (like a brother). I tried to be kind and gentle as well as honest. I guess I’m asking if there’s any chance of his being happy just being mates?
- +1 y
In your opinion?
- +1 y
Or is it a lost cause?
- +1 y
I don’t know how to help him get laid. There’s actually no one I know who fancies him. That’s not to say no one ever has, or would.
- +1 y
Yes, I really only want to be friends with him. More than that though, I want him to stop trying to convince me to be his girlfriend.
- +1 y
Is the best thing to leave it up to him to contact me if he decides he can be ‘just friends?’
- +1 y
So he actually is interested and not just desperate?
- +1 y
If he keeps pushing it and getting upset when I’ve made my lack of interest obvious, then he’s not acting like my friend, on the other hand. I can’t help how I feel and my feelings forbid any romantic relationship with him.
- +1 y
He’s sulking right now. He’s one of your best friends. You know him better than I do. What do you suggest I do?
- +1 y
I wasn’t mean to him. All I did was tell him I don’t feel a spark and that my only interest in him is friendship. I don’t have to date your friend, just because he feels entitled to me.
- +1 y
He’s upset that I rejected him, which I did respectfully.

+1 yI would think that he's interested and wants to know if you're available. Or he wants to play the wingman.

+1 yI’d be pretty annoyed since my friends should probably know if I’m single or not. He is probably either hitting on you or is just curious
10 Reply- 892 opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic.
+1 yCould be. It could also be that you said something only a single person would say and he was confirming it. That's less likely but have seen it happen.

In my opinion me and my single friends would go out and try to pick up some girls.
- +1 y
So do you think he was asking for himself, or his friends?
- +1 y
Probably for himself but asking it like he is asking for a fruend.
- +1 y
Seriously
+1 yIf she's my friend I'm asking for conversation personally. I'm not friends w girls I want to get involved with

+1 yI've had a friend do this, and there was one reason for it:
He was told it was a "less intense" way of saying he's potentially interested in a girl. It's also possible he's asking for a friend of his!20 Reply- 470 opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic.
+1 yMen are NOT your friends! He is only asking that because he wants to smash, which is the same reason he talks to you at all.
