Boyfriend chose to go to USA?

We ve been together since late 2018. I always felt like I was his second option but ignored it

We decided to do a PhD and I planned to return to the UK to do my PhD there. He on the other hand didn't agree and was applying to US institutions, finally deciding to go to New York for his PhD.

I told him that LDR during PhD will be tough but he didn't agree and left for New York.

Why would he do this?

Doesn't seem like there's a desire to stay near one another or at least an effort. More of a," nah, ima go over here, good luck though" and saying long distance will be no issue

Let's say I'm with a girl. assuming I care about her and really see a future with her. Damn right ima do my best to always be close to her. And if I can't, long distance definitely wouldn't be easy as your guy seems to say.

I haven't even mentioned how you yourself said you feel like a second option
