Guys, Why are so many guys into lying?

Question

Whether it's a fib, an omission, a "white lie" or an outright fabrication, it amazes me that guys are so prone to lying about SMALL things that probably wouldn't have made such a difference if they were just forthright about their situation from the getgo. Is getting someone to be interested in you SUCH a draw that you feel compelled to lie about everything from your height to your marital status? WHY?

(Ok ok, haters, before you rail on me for my comment, I'm not saying ALL GUYS are like this... NOR am I saying that there aren't any gold-digging skanks out there who are also doing this. I'm asking why a guy would bother bugging a GOOD, KIND, HONEST WOMAN with their bs. The snowjob is going to become evident at some point... why not be honest from the start instead of gaslighting and all the rest? What a terrible and immoral waste of both YOUR and HER time!)

Values. The majority of men who lie have a poor (or no) moral compass and/or are unprincipled. That's what it usually comes down to.

But to give a longer and more detailed answer, guys lie to protect their immediate comfort. Nobody likes to admit they're wrong and, unfortunately, the lack of good role models, values, and lasting consequences in today's society has encouraged men and women alike to throw aside traditional religion (and the principles that come with religion) and live purely for the religions of personal comfort, gain, and pleasure. So it's no surprise that so many guys are so willing to lie.

After all, there is no God, no objective truth, and therefore no right or wrong. Whatever you say, think, or believe is TRUE. Even if you believe you're a "waterfall under a rainbow." Right?

Personally, arguments like those leave me utterly unconvinced. But that's not the popular opinion.

While this is rare, there are some cases where the guy is forced to lie e. g. his work is classified or (like was my case) he was/is an adolescent stuck in an unhealthy/dangerous situation and has to protect himself. This isn't exactly what you're talking about since it's out of the guy's control, but it can lead to what you're talking about

In situations like that, guys create a habit of preparing a story and delivering it as the truth, and that's all fair and good. But when they're no longer in that situation, it can be difficult to break that bad habit. A principled man WILL break that habit, but it's not easy.

People that lie are just trying to win one over on you to try to get your attention and to try to get you into bed pretty much , or to gain something from you , they have no dignity or respect for anyone but themselves, Guys’ and Girls’ lie for very similar reasons , to try to gain something from you. Not realizing they are only hurting themselves , Why lying is so stupid to do , cuz eventually the truth will shine and they will be caught red handed. It’s a sign of weakness and insecurity within themselves , some people Are so great at lying that they eventually start to believe in their own lies. I knew a few people that were compulsive liars that eventually got busted red handed and they ended up killing themselves over it , because there was no escaping their lies. It’s sad to witness

You may find it amazing, but you must understand where we come from. I don't know about other guys, but I came from a family with a toxic helicopter parent. She's got abusive traits, verbal/physical abuse but at the core, she means well. She wants to do good, but never listens to what everyone actually needs. Her worries stressed me out as well as the others. A white lie for a normal day without drama is a good trade to me, and I don't go back on that. Life back there was walking on egg shells, walking through a mine field where sometimes even if you missed them, the mines would fly up to your face anyway.
This is extreme, but there are also people who ask for my opinion, and then get offended when I give it. They also can't handle honesty.
To those people, people who can not handle the truth, I will lie. Yes. Now Good/Kind/honest women or men... They get my honesty.

It's the same reason women lie. Because they can get away with it, or it's a defense mechanism, or they are shitty people.

For example, long ago, God I feel old, 12 years ago, before I met the woman I would marry, and before I had a near death experience, I followed the "never tell the truth when a lie will do" it was a defense mechanism for me to keep everyone at arms length. I spent the majority of my child hood abused by parents, bullied by my peers, and abused in foster care. I protected my self by surrounding my self with lies. When I almost died from my wisdom teeth, and when I met my wife, I felt like maybe I should stop doing that. I wanted to let her in. So I adopted an honest life. I stopped lying to anyone and everyone. I spent so many years being a liar that I really didn't even know who I was. It took me a while, but I think I got it figured out now.

Most people are low key sociopaths in my mind and don't really give a shit about anybody but themselves. They don't really think too deeply about consequences or how other people will feel. They do whatever will benefit them in the short term and damned be the long term.

I don't personally lie and I am pretty upfront. That's probably why I would be a shitty pickup artist.

I don't know. Maybe they have a emotional problem. The nephew of a very old friend is staying at my house. He told me he is a habitual liar. I've caught him in a few. This girl he was messing with, well I told her about the lies. But she has a couple kids. She dropped him after it was proven to her. It's strange. I'm good at telling white lies tho. My dad always said I never lied. Heh, I had to.

The sad truth is I believe the majority of PEOPLE in the world lie often. There are very few people who are open and honest in every situation of their lives. Even if you are (you'd be rare), you can't expect everyone to live up to your standards. I guess it's not an entirely bad thing, because that makes the open and honest people more unique in a way, I think? 😅 But yeah... part of the reason I don't like going out often is because I can pick up when people are being two faced a lot of the time. Most people are fake and only "care" about you if they can get some benefit from you. That's why it's often draining to go out at all.
