Would a smitten guy lose interest if a girl rejected his kiss?

My best guy friend tried to kiss me and I didn’t reciprocate because I was shy. He seemed hurt but told me it was all cool and still kept contact and remained touchy and lovey dovey after that incident, hugged me all the time, kissed my forehead and called Mrs beautiful and cute every 5 minutes however he claimed that he lost romantic feelings for me. Was he ever smitten with me? He would still tell me he missed me after that incident

He could. I would. But It doesn't sound like it by the way you describe him. Most guys are not that upfront with thier feelings after being rejected. It sounds to me like he didn't have feelings to begin with, but now tell you he lost romantic feelings to see how you react to that.

For the same reason a woman would claim to be shy when she rejects a guy. Just playing "the game". If he backs off and you have interest in him you'll likely come to him. If you don't then he knows it's time for him to move on to another woman.

I know I would lose interest. If I tried to kiss you and you told me "no," that would be the end of the conversation. I'd feel like an idiot and wonder if I misread the situation
