Guys, Why did my guy friend hold my phone?

So basically we were at youth group and we were sitting next to each other and i left my phone on the chair when service ended and he went to grab his chair, my chair and someone elses which he normally does even if he’s not sitting next to me. So he grabbed my phone and put it in his pocket and i guess he noticed i was looking for it and told me from a couple feet away that he had it and i was like “ok”, all i cared about was that it wasn't lost and it was safe. But let’s take inventory here; he could’ve put it inside my open bag, or even laid it on top. I have never seen him do this with any other girl. Is this something guys do when they have feelings for a girl, idek. It’s a small thing but am i overthinking this? Also a couple weeks a go he told me he was unsure about our friendship and saw a possibility of sorts and i said i did too but ultimately we agreed to be friends because it wouldn't work out longterm, we agreed were better as friends. Its kind of been an adjustment to getting back to normal and seeing him strictly as a friend again, i just didn't want anything to be awkward and last Wednesday which is when the phone thing happened and he sat next to me, was also the second time i had seen him since our convo. It did not feel awkward at all and i loved that. Anyways sorry for such extended context, but what do y'all think?

Hmm that phone incident is kinda strange girl. I don't think most guy friends would just stick a girl's phone in their pocket like that.

He definitely could have just left it on the seat or bag if it was really no big deal. My guess is he subconsciously wanted an excuse to hold onto something of yours, even if just for a few minutes.

Plus with the backstory of him saying he had feelings - I think he's still trying to find little ways to be close to you, even if you agreed to just be friends. His flirty self can't help peeking out sometimes!

I wouldn't overthink it too much though. You said it didn't feel awkward between you, so that's a good sign. As long as he respects your boundaries it's all good.

Maybe he'll get over those feels eventually. But sounds like for now he's enjoying any little moment he gets to act like more than a friend. Just be aware he might still have it bad! Keep me posted girl.

Well sort of and with reason if i might add
He did tell me a couple weeks ago about his feelings and now he sat next to me and took my phone. Like would you take a girls phone if you didn't want to keep it safe for her. Im just saying its a little sus and he's never done that before and I've never seen him do that with another girls phone. And from a female perspective, if i liked a guy i would take their stuff to keep it safe for them cus i want to be the one to keep it safe for them you know what i mean. It could mean nothing but thats why i am asking, because yes girls tend to overthink and become delusional and i dont want to be delusional but slowly my foot is slipping and your comment didn't help make me not feel stupid 💀
