Guys, My guy friend literally was holding my wrist, why?

So 2nd period came around and this is honestly something im shocked im typing, my guy friend held my wrist during 2nd period. He held my wrist for about a solid minute or so. I didn't notice until I felt his hand. So like any logical person I asked "Why did you hold my wrist?" He got kinda tense or anxious, he started being loud and said "I don't know why!!" then that was the end of the situation. Why did he do this or why do you think he did this?

Here's more details: He was just holding my wrist, I should've re worded it. I meant I felt his hand but then didn't look until I looked down and saw.

For the asker: I meant more in terms of your guys relationship such as has he shown any sort of behaviour atypical of hiw he treats other girls your age. Also what the context was, were you reading Romeo and Juliet for example, were you watching a frog get dissected, was the teacher in the middle of a holocaust lecture. Did either of you say anything or have anything said to you. These are could be important in having an insight as to his mental state and thus his behaviour.
