Why is he avoiding me like the plague?

This guy at work found out I liked him and asked for my number. From his own mouth he told me that he thinks I'm cute and that he wishes he knew I liked him a long time ago. He said he even asked a few coworkers about me. We texted for the next three days and he says in his texts that he really liked me and thinks I'm hot but he never speaked to me even though we were both there. All of a sudden he stopped texting me. He told another coworker he stopped texting me because he has a feeling he shouldn't be talking to me. Days later I texted him and he replied. This time he tells I sounded like wasn't interested in him but then says he has a girlfriend and I found out they've been dating for year's now. But the later says I'm hot again. I responded but he never replied again. I see him everyday at work but he never says anything to me. One day he walked past me smiling but then the next he has his head down even when he knows I'm about to walk past him. It's really weird because that last time we texted was two weeks ago and I never speak to him. I don't understand why he fed me all these lines if he knew he wasn't going to talk to me.
