How to deal with narcissistic executives at work?

I recently started a new job at an established company, and I’m looking for some advice on handling interactions with one of the top executives who has a pretty narcissistic behavior pattern. He’s known for being very charismatic and likes to be the center of attention, often disrupting the office with his jokes and presence. However, when it’s one-on-one, especially in his office, he becomes very intense and often interrogates employees in a way that feels more like a power play than genuine interest or leadership.

His behavior is quite jarring as he swings from being Mr. Funny Guy to a more intense, almost confrontational persona. It’s been a challenge to adjust to, and I’m finding it tough to maintain my professional demeanor without getting drawn into his dynamics. I want to remain professional and handle our interactions wisely without giving him the upper hand or showing that I’m affected by his tactics. He’s the cofounder of the company so obviously I respect his position but I don’t want him thinking he can pompously lord over me for his own selfish gains and entertainment.

Does anyone have experience with this type of personality in the workplace? How do you manage your interactions with narcissistic executives without compromising your professionalism or personal peace? Any advice or strategies would be greatly appreciated!
