I see it from the standpoint of self improvement & needing money to survive.

Men & Women strive to be the best they can be and depending on that definition for the individual means different things. Getting a driver’s license to drive their mom’s beaten up station wagon from the 90s, graduating from college with a degree in Computer Science, to making enough money to start a local business, etc. Point is, humans are designed to be accomplishing goals, shooting for the stars, and doing things for their best interest at heart which getting paid so you can buy goods & services is a necessity.
We need money to put food on the table, keep the lights on, have a good time on the town, have dates, etc. without it, you have nothing… Which will always keep men longing for a stable career, nice wages, and a good work ethic to keep their position afloat.

Difficult question to answer because men pursuing power and status and women craving men who are powerful and have status is in our genetic makeup as part of our evolution.

I think that this is less of a conscious choice for both men and women and more of an instinct that comes from their genetic evolution.

So and asking this question, you are suggesting that womens' natural instinct would be changed.

If you assume that that means evolution of the human genetic makeup had progressed differently than it actually did there's no telling what the result would be.

I don't think lust for power is gender based. I see culture and upbringing. Look at kids, they want to own the world at such a young age, a girl, a boy, they both want power, to be all mighty. We're not supposed to let them growing with such unsupervised lust. We're supposed to stop them.
