Guy start to slow down text and eventually stops?

This guy I been texting and talking to for a little bit. We talked and text all the time and eventually it slowed down and then stopped. I would text and he would dry text send one word and other times would not reply at all. I just stop texting him altogether and days later I got a text from him saying that he haven’t heard from me in a while. I didn’t text back then he text back and said sorry and that he won’t bother me again.
What you guys think?
