There’s a guy who hints at knowing me from the past. He could be one of two men. An ex friend, or an ex date. Neither one of them had said anything about having a wife and kids, or about their job or owning a house. Apparently he’s a widower, now, a single dad for some time now.

Can a man be very private with a friend group, about his job and his family life?

Yes, people can be very secretive about their private lives and can hide pretty much anything from others if they make sure that their story is consistent. However, creating such a lie is difficult because the longer you lie about something, the more difficult it becomes not to make any mistake that would uncover the truth.

If the lie is cleverly done, then you can keep it on for as long as you want. However, if it is too obvious, it will be discovered pretty soon if you do some digging into the story.

Don't go saying things that are just too obvious to be true...
