In most historically macho cultures, being perceived as gay is among the most terrible things that can happen to a man who believes he is straight. Therefore, anything that makes such a connotation is vehemently rejected by him. You can get the magnitude of that fear even here at GAG from hundreds of questions that go like "Am I gay if I do?" Those three dots can be anything down to the most innocent or irrelevant act/feeling that would make a sane person think "Why would anyone even think that has anything to do with being gay?"

Your particular question falls into the the same category of the fear of being perceived gay in the eyes of others. Thinking a person has physical beauty is an aesthetic conclusion, it may be for a person of any gender, which is not too different than finding an inanimate thing beautiful, like a scenery, painting, even food. But fear is one of the biggest impediments in front of a thinking mind, so we'll see people asking those silly questions in the future too.

Men on average receive so few compliments from people that aren't family they often think that a compliment is someone making a pass at them because in general people aren't nice to guys, including other guys they don't know well. I struggle with mental health disorders, and I learned men were treated differently than woman very quickly.

Any time I cried in public because my brain chemistry was messed up people would look at me like I was weird or there was something wrong with me and I was sick. They'd pretend they didn't see me or gave me looks of pity as they went passed when I had a breakdown.

Then whenever I saw a girl in that position though she always had people flocking to make her feel better. On average men receive so little attention and affection from most people that just being acknowledged often puzzles us because we're used to being ignored. A lot of guys genuinely can't understand why someone would say something nice to us unless they 1. Want something from them or 2. They're hitting on you.

It's also not just on woman either, men have pecking orders to a degree and a lot of guys at the top like to bully men that they deem lesser to make themselves feel above them and superior. Part of what established this mindset is the whole group think of "If you don't do this you're not a real man".

You see it when the jacked guys are bullying the fat guy trying to lose weight at the gym or the weird kid in the locker room when the teachers aren't there to see it. Part of what created this culture too is there are still a lot of the same expectations of men that there have always been with most of the benefits of they had removed.

No, I'm not saying that ALL guys are victims, and everything is womans fault and the far-left blah blah blah, though I hate the left as much as the right. Parties are a problem period. I sick of the extremist on both sides because they're only making everything worse for everyone!

What I am saying is a large chunk of people have done everything in their power to overcorrect to the point they've gone from making everyone equal to making all men feel like lesser human trash and ostracized from society. White guys and Asians are getting a lot of the heat but men in general including black and a lot of Latino men as well are getting it. Ever since covid I've seen a lot more of anti-Asian racism then before too.

(No, I'm not saying America is an inherently racist country but there are a lot of racists here that's a fact, but there are racists everywhere in the world not just the US.)

The far right is no better fanning the flames further so they can make them angry and then whisper sweet nothings about how if we just put them in office all our problems will be gone. The reality is If the far right 100% had their way we'd be an isolationist, white, christen society. As for what would happen if the left had complete and total power look at New York and California to see what that will do to the nation.

Thanks to this angry back and forth of push and pull fighting between two ideologies we've been so manipulated and blinded by hating each other we've let the rich and powerful steal every single thing we have from us! over 60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck myself included! Things don't have to be this way if we would start looking for compromise instead of conflict!

Well... Men should not find male silhouettes attractive. Not even the faces. I mean, they should literally be unable to judge other men's attractiveness, as it is not how their brains are supposed to be wired. If a man calls another man attractive, some people believe it implies more than an offhand comment stating a fact. Though I guess sometimes a certain man being handsome is indeed obvious enough that pointing it out is nothing more than admitting a simple fact. Though personally, if faced with a situation like this, I would rather point out the very features that the man in question possesses and that are known to make women consider a man attractive, then concluding that those features would make him attractive to women, instead of using classifiers like "handsome" or "attractive". Better to showcase a cool-headed reasoning leading to a certain conclusion than to risk implying acknowledging a person of the same sex being attractive.

As far as the world has evolved, in a lot of cultures and societies, being gay is still seen as a bad thing to be for men in particular, and with anything on a cultural level, many people would rather fall in line to the perceived cultural standard, than to be the standout guy, in this case, that freely compliments other men because of the stereotype that he then, "must be gay." Whenever I do actually hear men compliment each other, it always has be be proceeded or followed up by something subtly or not so subtly quip to indicate to the other man, he's not gay. He'll say, "your haircut is clean bro, looks good on you dummy." Like he can't just say, your haircut is amazing and leave it at that. Always something before or after to say, hey, not gay. Meanwhile in girl world, "your hair is so amazing, can I touch it, ooo the volume. I need to know RIGHT NOW how you got those waves...."

Because "some people" are very insecure about their own masculinity and deathly afraid of what other people think of them.

Another reason, look around on the internet. A LOT of these "men" are jealous and bitter that women give good looking guys their attention while guys who make no effort to look their best are routinely ignored.

Its about the timing. If I were to just say "you look good today" or something when I link up with a friend, that's not gay. When we're watching NBA and I turn to him mid game and go "you look good today" that's questionable. Needless to say, it's not gay unless you make it gay.
