What do you think? Sounds creepy to me.

What do you think? Sounds creepy to me.

Hahahaha, it's so creepy!!! Unless you're in the 1930s...
Who is calling women "doll" in 2025. I'm kind of hoping you tell me that this is something you've seen guys say to or about women in real life. heard more than once in real life. That's so funny and creepy and wrong for so many reasons. But so funny for me to picture. (it'll stop being funny soon. Then it'll make me sad)
or are you just commenting on when they did? Back in the old-timey black-and-white gangster flicks and using it in the past? In which case: Less funny, and yea... fucking creepy.
How about "Doll-face": more, less, or equally creepy.
Now that I think about it, what exactly is a "baby-cake"? That might end up being creepier.
Fuck... now you've got me thinking harder than I ever have about how creepy it is that we call each other "baby." Which I use (in appropriate contexts, not... as a matter of course... you know what I mean. But still... creepy. I might have to start saying shnookums
Wait... what the hell is a snookums anyway...
🙂
I don't really hear that expression often, actually never except maybe for people in their 60s or above, so I'd say it's dated? As for the reason, well, from how I look at the "good old days", a sexist atmosphere looked like the norm?
I don't think I ever heard a man in real life calling a woman a doll except in a gangster movies.
And I guess it just mean as a compliment, doll are pretty so they use it to say a girl is pretty, my family (mother and grandmother) often say I look like a Barbie doll, I also had Japanese women saying I look like a porcelain doll. It's just a compliment that means a woman look pretty that's all. I don't see what's creepy about it
Gangster movies or old US cartoons lol, I think there's more to it than just a compliment, I mean it may look like a genuine compliment about beauty from old folks... And that's exactly where the creepy part can be conceived, because it talks about beauty BUT at the expense of other traits. As if beauty was the only trait there is to see, manifested by what a doll is, it is an item to manipulate, it doesn't have an identity. So comparing someone to such an item easily sends a "something is off" vibe, when looking closely at it, despite the maybe good intents behind
@Maybe_Maybe_not Yes, I guess it depends on the person saying it, I don't know, my mother and grandmother who are the only one saying I look like a doll are also the only one thinking I have shit personality. They agreed I 'm the prettiest (between my sister and i) but always gave me shit for my personality all the time while praising my looks so you might be onto something , it does make sense.
My other grandmother also called me a doll (everytime she bring me to the hairdresser to do a tresse she say I look like a doll and she was the one to decide which hairstyle I was getting).
But at the same time I love doll, it have always been my favorite stuff as a child and even as an adult I collection the Christmas barbie so I don't really mind.
I guess it might be creepier if it came from a boyfriend or something
"she says I look like a doll and she was the one to decide which hairstyle I was getting"
"gave me shit for my personality all the time while praising my looks"
This. Very good examples of why calling a girl a doll would send a disturbing vibe, this precise confusion between identity and looks. Sadly, a not so uncommon case, when parents wish to have kids fitting their vision instead of helping them to forge a separate identity
I haven't heard a guy under 55 call a woman "Doll" in YEARS. Where tf are you hanging out? Do they still wear zoot suits? Most guys today just say hon or babe...
😯😔
I guess I got cake in the face on that one. 😯

I don't know. It has a diminutive connotation. I guess dolls are small, cute, cuddly and comforting.
"She's a living doll" means adorable.
Babe (baby) is another one that don't really make sense, aside from implying cuteness and smallness.
And, of course, guys may use pet names like kitten, bunny, pumpkin, sugar, honey, etc.
There are lots of derogatory words, too, like broad, dame, skirt, dish, tomato, ...
Because dolls can have many personalities and still be the same physically. The different characters/personalities/individuals are a sign to warn men of the facade that women portray that must be approached with caution as they will never reveal their real selves openly.
Could be a few reasons. One, just old fashioned. It may have been a term of endearment back in the day. The same is calling a girl sweetie or dear, etc, etc. Could also be referring to the fact that a lot of women these days have plastic surgery, fake tots, fake ass, so they’re plastic.
Well, that sign is definitely making a joke, suggesting that some women are satanic. But besides that, I've never heard of men referring to women as dolls. So, I'm not too sure what the deal with that is.
Look every girl likes - even if she says she doesn't - being thought beautiful. Doll is just one of the synonyms we use.
Never liked the term personally and never really used it other than when girls clean themselves up to go out. I might say something like "You dolled yourself up nice." It's more out of habit that anything.
Actually, I don't think they have since the 50s.
It's an old thing front the 40s. She's a doll. In other words she cute.
Yes I get it. All women are different and you never know what version you're going to get. It's kinda sexist, but I know it's a joke. So I'm not going to waste much thought on it.
Doll used to be a term of endearment... then feminism happened.
It's slang from the 1920's, I believe. It is likely derived from "dollface", a complement of admiration/term of endearment for girls and women with clear complexions, pretty eyes and lips.
I didn't know they still called women doll. I thought it was only back in the 60's that men said that
Personally I don’t it’s a little odd to me as well but most people probably mean well by it. Unless her names Dolly maybe
Honestly would never call a woman a doll, if I think she's beautiful, cute, I'll just use those words instead. I don't want to say doll is "weird" but it's sure not a word ill be using to describe a woman. Personally.
Yes, it is creepy. It is right up there with calling a man daddy.
Those guys are weird that’s why. Why would I wanna be romantic with something that isn’t human?
What? Girls are not human?
Dolls. Isn’t that the subject?
I'm pretty sure they call only call girls that they are physically attracted to "dolls". It seems obvious to me that it's because the girl is attractive.
It started off as a way to refer to a woman who was the mistress or just a slut. You have the internet. You can literally find the origin of a word.
I've never heard a man call a woman a doll. I just seen women calling themselves that. I can't tell you how many times I've heard a woman call herself barbie
Old term that hits its zenith with "Guys & Dolls". I never have.
Because they often like to dress up in expensive clothes.
Well I like it when they call me doll
Or maybe a "Bratz" doll? 😏
Yeah that's ok too hehe
Because some guys still believe that girls doesn't poop and fart 💩 lol ahahahah 😆😆
Ewwwwww! 😫
Why eww and cry lol? Did I said anything wrong
Those guys compare you with dolls because they think you never fart and poo like a doll lmao 😂 but reality is horrible hahahah 🤣🤣
Not since the 1960s/
I've never done it
Maybe older men do?
I've only ever called one woman a doll 😂
And who was that?
I'm sure you've seen her around here
Possibly not too.
I guess lol
Less condescending than calling you toys
Nothing tops toots lol.
Someone has been watching Tootsie again?
No just laughing at how things have changed and ridiculous a word that was. I am old enough to remember old people when I grew up saying that and I used to say what a stupid word. Lol
They think girls would take it as compliment.
Not remotely part of my lexicon.
I certainly don't. Comes off weird to me.
It's an old fashioned term from the 50s
I never call them dolls.
Use and play like a doll! Old concept.
I find it creepy too
