I am going to assume the question is not solely rhetorical.

Evolution has merely built new brain layers of top of old brain layers. Our (incl lesbians) most primitive brain layers look exactly like reptilian brains and it is often referred to as the reptilian brain. Above that we have mammalian brain layers. and above that there is the neocortex. Our conscious brain is mostly in the neocortex and our unconscious brain is mostly in the other two layers and that is where our instincts are hardwired also.
