I let a guy go because there was another one on the scene that I thought I liked better. I've contacted the guy that I let go and he knows I want to try again but he won't really talk to me is there any hope?

It doesn't seem like it due to his response. Some guys could be understanding and forgiving, and you would have to explain yourself and apologize. Unfortunately for you, it doesn't seem like he will let you. You made a decision and these are the consequences.
