Is there a meaning behind his hypothetical question?

I was talking to my male coworker, and during our conversation, he started asking hypothetical questions like, “If a guy were to ask for your number, would you actually give it to him, or would you give your Instagram instead?” He mentioned that he personally prefers to ask for a phone number over Instagram if he finds someone attractive. It caught me off guard since it was only the second time we had ever spoken. Do u think maybe he was just trying to keep the conversation going, being friendly, or was he hinting at something more?

He was subtly, but clearly, indicating his interest and trying to figure out the best way to get your contact information for personal reasons.

"Hinting" is more a thing women do. Guys aren't as good at it even if they try it.
