What is a reasonable gift for a male friend? A gift that does not sent the wrong message, but I appreciate you as a friend only?

I got my friend a watch. He invited me to dinner with him. After dinner, he wanted sex. I refused and he got mad and returned the watch.

Sounds like he’s not a genuine friend if he reacted that way. He just wanted to smash this whole time and got upset that he didn’t get to.

As for gifts for guy friends, I think it’s a bit intimate to give a gift unless you are REALLY close. A happy birthday wish should suffice or maybe a birthday card.

Anything more than that and it could potentially be taken the wrong way. And in your situation, it looks like he did take it the wrong way.

That reaction of his is a red flag though. He should have apologized for misunderstanding — not get mad at you and throw a fit.

A bottle of booze might be better than a watch unless you two as friends have some long history that he won’t try and read into something that doesn’t exists. Not that I would try and nail my gal pal for getting me a watch. Come to think of it, I haven’t tried nailing any of them for any past gifts. Then again, if to be surprised by a new full trim S 63 AMG parked in my driveway with a giant bow on it by a gal pal, I would start to wander if ‘I’ need to put out…Hmmm … if she pays the insurance I guess I am taking one for the team.

Unfortunately, many guys are starving sexually and interpret everything through that starved perspective. Most likely no kind of gift would have been received differently.

It depends on the occasion. Guys like gadgets or something sports related if they are into that.
