Generally speaking, that's how guys think. He just said it out loud.

This site is a good example, I have never seen a "what does it mean if..." or "is it a red flag if..." question from a guy. It's always a woman who has been overanalyzing a situation and she finally gives up doing it herself and asks all of us to help analyze even more.

So, to answer your question. He is trustworthy. He's following his emotions and not examining every phrase or gesture under a microscope.
