When a guy wants friends with benefits but acts emotionally involved?

A guy wants a friends with benefits situation. I set clear rules: no dates, no overnights, and only 2–3 hookups to avoid feelings. We haven’t hooked up in two weeks but text daily, often flirtatiously. I declined meeting at my office and later told him I didn’t want to be part of an existing friends with benefits setup and wanted to work on myself, though I see potential compatibility. He said it wasn’t a good time due to bad news and wanted to stay connected.

Realizing my wording may have been insensitive given our work, I offered friendship and emotional support only—no FWB—which he accepted. Since then, we’ve continued texting daily, checking in on each other, mild flirting, and emotional availability, but still no hookup.

Is he catching feelings, or am I reading too much into this?

I am still in a friends with benefits relationship. About a month ago I ended the relationship because I am starting to have feelings. He did not understand why I want to end what we have since the intimacy is awesome.
5 days later he reaches out. The only thing he mentionned was the awesome intimacy and how super attractive he is to me. Our daily communication remains etc….
How can I readdress the issue so that he understands that I am serious?
