Why do guys hate it when girls scream?

I had an ex who hated it when I screamed. Obviously I didn't do it deliberately, but sometimes I was scared. E. g - once he got into a fight with another guy. I screamed because I didn't want anyone to get hurt. Later he asked why I had been shrieking - he was really annoyed.

Female screams are uniquely ear piercing, loud and shrill, designed to sound alarm.

I sometimes find short screams of joy or excitement cute. But screams are usually annoying or even bone chilling.

When I was growing up, the neighbors across the street had a pool. When the girls were swimming and having fun, you could hear their screams over a block away.

A group of drunk women laughing and screaming in a pub is annoying af.

When I am driving with my wife in the car and she screams "Watch out!", it freaks me out. My adrenaline spikes. I think we are about to get broadsided by a semi or something. I'll say "What?" and she'll say "Do you see that car stopping?" 1000 feet ahead of us a car is braking to slow down. I already saw it but she acted like we were about to collide. Her scream makes me look all around and brace for impact. If I didn't know better, I could lock up my brakes and spin off of the road.
I have been fairly successful in getting her to calmly say, "That car ahead is stopping", or "Do you see those deer near the side of the road?", or whatever is alarming her

Female screams are automatic. They are part of girl's nature. But I generally think they should be reserved for dire circumstances.

Because it contributes nothing, and is an auditory annoyance/distraction.


A quick scream is fine, but those prolonged screams/continuous chirps/shrieks do no one any good.

It's childish and annoying obviously. Screaming is a distraction that hurts a situation. Mature adults don't just start panic screaming they handle the situation maturely
