Coworker pulled me into his lap and agreed to hang out—does he like me?

I have a coworker who is slightly older. we first met when he shadowed me on one of his first shifts and since then we’ve gotten along in the brief times we see eachother at work (which are very brief because we’re always scheduled so differently). we had a work party recently where we barely spoke at all but at the end i went to him to say i was leaving early and he was super concerned with how i was getting home and whether id be okay (but this is surely just common courtesy). we hug whenever we see eachother but he’s also super friendly to everyone and is popular because of how cool he is. the last time i saw him, we were talking and he was sitting down, but as i walked by him still mid conversation he pulled me into his lap and i barely even stayed because i was so nervous lol. after that, we arranged a date to meet (which was genuinely my third attempt at meeting him outside of work because he’s really busy) and i’m wondering if he knows it’s a date or not. more so i’m wondering if he likes me back. the thing is, we hug and we’re friendly irl but he doesn’t text me so… let me know

yeahh, i do really like him. we’re going out soon but haven’t talked about it since we arranged the day. he’s three years older!

Ok so what you do than is stop looking at people from work as potential mates and switch that people you know from your hobbies and regular life. Be much healthier of a life choice. As for me I offer advice on the internet to strangers who ask for it and ride motorcyles. I date people from coffee shops I frequent or that I see while out living life that I am attracted to and startr by starting a conversation with them.

Imagine how awkward things would be when this doesn’t work out, because it rarely ever does. I have two friends who tried dating at work. One got ran out of the place because of all the trouble that gossip was causing and the other just couldn’t take the awkwardness and quit on her own.

@HollyK21 yeah, that is something i did consider, but tbh my work is close to ending because it’s a fixed term thing and everyone who works here is only part time and is doing their own thing in life. this job is basically just a side quest for all of us

just to emphasise my point my work is reallllyyy close to being over w people leaving weekly and with it only being for a limited time so it genuinely is only a matter of time anyway- i’d never engage in this in a full time stable job.

@HollyK21 i understand your point but i really think we as humans stress over everything. you’re only gonna live once and workplace relationships are mostly only a problem when you see eachother daily. i see this guy once a week max, so it’s not really that deep i feel. also i have coworkers who are exes and nobody really gafs because i don’t have a toxic work environment

Also I recognize that I didn’t exactly address the topic of this question, mainly because I don’t encourage interoffice dating whatsoever, I’ve only ever seen it backfire. But it’s hard to determine whether or not he’s just being flirty or actually interested. Work relationships to me are similar to school relationships, where you really only interact with eachother out of convenience but outside of these spaces you don’t really contact one another. Obviously that’s not the case for every relationship, but more often than not. I guess the only want to determine what’s going on is to ask rather than assume, because you’re always privy to misinterpretation.
