How do I shut down my best friend’s sexist boyfriend politely?

So my best friend is dating a guy who’s a misogynist. I absolutely hate his views about women, but my best friend usually ignores his opinions because she’s a very chill person. She told me she’ll handle it in her own way. I did advise her to confront him, though.

Whenever I see him, he starts huge debates about whether women should drive because “they cause accidents,” how women are “too emotional,” how they should be gentle, and whether a husband should “allow” his wife to work or not.

At this point, I genuinely don’t know if he has some itch to convince me that his ideology is right. How do I tell someone to stfu in the nicest way possible

Also you don't have any control over someone who is an extremist.

I'd simply confront him with facts. For example while it's true that women are more likely to cause accidents with minor damage, men are actually the ones causing the more deadly accidents. Like if my friend dated a raging feminazi, I'd never start to correct them or challenge their views. That's just me. How my friend dealt with that is their problem not mine.

If you're aiming to do it in a way that avoids conflict, I'd say a lighthearted or joking tone & throwaway comments. Do not fall into debating with him, if he tries to pull you into one, change the subject. Show that you both will not allow his comments to pass without recognising the bullshit and also not allow him the high ground of riling you up.
