Why do less conventionally attractive girls get hit on more often?

Something I’ve noticed and I’m curious if anyone else has seen this. I know beauty is subjective, but I have two friends and I’d say one of them is pretty clearly more conventionally attractive than the other. They’re in basically the same social circles and go to the same places, but the other girl gets hit on and approached by guys way more often.

What makes it even more confusing is that the girl who gets approached more is actually more socially awkward, so I would’ve expected the opposite. Why do you think this happens? Is it about looking more approachable, guys being intimidated, or something else?

I posted on this a couple of days ago, please forgive the copypasta, but basically the answer is that there are more guys that think they have a realistic shot:

Some guys may be intimidated or they might think they have a better chance with someone that is out of their league. Have you had any experiences like this?

If a girl is very hot a lot of guys won't bother because they think thay will get shot down.

true, but I know many above average looking girls who rarely get hit on outside of social media
