"Say hi to your boyfriend for me."?

Long story short- Guy I like. We've been flirting for about a month and a half. He's very shy and awkward at times. So were waiting for the bus and I'm showing him how to make a paper swan when out of nowhere he says. "Say hi to your boyfriend for me." We hadn't talked about dating or even relationships in general so I was shocked. Guys, do you say things like this to show your interest? Or, are you really thinking that we're taken?

It's all about the tone.

Maybe you're dating someone else and he's a little bitter and that's his way of saying 'I noticed, and I was interested'

Or if he's a little sly like me that's him probing to see if you're taken. I don't pursue taken girls because oh I dunno.. I have a conscience. So I might suggest they have a boyfriend just to see her reaction. Does she say 'I don't have a boyfriend'? Then I'm coming for you girl - rawR. If you nod, or any reaction that can come off as agreeing or acknowledging you have a boyfriend... it's time for me to lose interest and chase other girls. You're either taken or want me to think it. Happens in a second.
