10 Unwritten Rules of Pick-Up Basketball

1.
If new players arrive on the court wanting to play. Be courtesous and have them join in the game. Ignoring them and saying no makes you into a jerk.

2. No whinning. It makes you look bad and effects the environment for other players. Whether you are winning or losing or etc. Keep you whinning with mama. If you can't handle a foul get off the court.

3. No how to play the game. Nothing is more annoying than someone entering a pick up game with at least average players while he plays like a 1st grade girl. It doesn't make the game fun. Play on your own develop some skills them come play with the big boys.

4. No hard fouls. We're here to have fun. Fouls, getting hit and getting hurt is part of the game. Nothing is worse than commiting an intentional hard foul. It will cause a ruckus and people may not want you to play with them.

5. Calling fouls, unnoticeable travels, carries or calling fouls anytime someone even defends you. These are what I call puzzy calls. If you are a pu**y go shopping with your sister.

6. Finish a game before you go home. One thing that I hate most is when players leave in the middle of the game leaving the court with an odd number of players.

7. Majority rules. Depending on what it is; example if there is a debate between playing half or full and majorty votes full...then go with it. I hate full court basketball yet I still suck it up everytime i play.

8. If you bring your own basketball expect players to use it. I hate when players (usually kids) bring in a basketball then when someone wants to use it they say no or try hiding it.

Don't do that.

9. I got next. Whoever calls it first will be on the next run. If you called it 2nd that does not mean you're getting on the next game. So you need to grow patients and wait.

10. If Full court players were there first (or Majority rules) should be allowed to use both nets for full court. In some cases there have been people who randomly interupt a full court game to shoot on a net and not want to move. If the full court players are already playing a game you may use a spare net if there is one at that location or you can use the full court nets that are being used but prepare to move when they come down that floor.

Who gots next!?

Honrable mentions:

You have to find ways to cope with ball hogs. Its okay to communicate to the ball hog but acting like a girl about it and walking off the court is a no no.

Don't use or bring in crappy deflated balls to the courts.

Dress like you are there to play ball. Dressing like a farmer to play basketball is crazy.

Pause the game incase of an injury or an important call.

Important calls are understanable but using your phone as the game is going on takes away the seriousness of the game.

Play fun yet still play seriously.

If the sports center you are playing in says they are closing at whatevet time obey the rules.
