A thyroid condition is NEVER responsible for more than a moderate amount of weight gain. That's NEVER, as in "never". Never ever ever. Even patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis -- i. e., patients whose thyroid glands don't work **AT ALL** -- typically only gain a MAXIMUM of about 15 pounds over their default bodyweight.
If someone gains more than about that amount, then that *can't* be blamed on the thyroid. That's a lifestyle issue.

In fact, even the American Thyroid Association -- which, if anything, has a vested interest in *exaggerating* the problem -- says only 5-10 pounds on its official website!
It just helps to break it down in a more understandable form. You are obviously very well read on this subject and well most of us aren't , so it really helped out
I'm glad that I bounce around in my chair "dancing" to the music. My right leg also goes up and down a lot (kinda like a piston). I'll have to read the links when I have time.
lol. this is so easy for me to contradict. i would just lie down in my room all the time just sleeping no fidgeting just scrolling on my phone. hell my roommates complained i did nothing but sleep and should get out more often. i was constantly worried about not going out enough and for reference i eat at least as much as my roommates cause i the same stuff as them basically as them same amount one plate which had fixed amoutn for everyone. the result? i continued to stay skinny with little gain weight while they might have gotten and fatter and had to exercise to lose weight. just to gain a couple kgs i had eat 2 peanut butter covered sandwitches 4 eggs and lunch and dinner and milk everyday. whixh my frineds would just gain naturally over time. also i never had those big tummythat litterally all my friends have. so explain to me how that works for me.
I agree... mostly. You see... we have to have a healthy hormonal response to eating for this to be accurate. Basically... it ensures that you're getting enough motion going on INSIDE... physically... blood flow wise... which is a chemical response. And it's why your thyroid related hormone levels can definitely affect weight. :)

So in other words if I stop fidgeting I can gain weight and not be getting teased about being to skinny. Nope sorry tried that. For a month I just sat in front of the tv doing nothing while eating and I still did not gain any weight.
Perhaps anecdotal, but although I am in shape now, I have been skinny my whole life and have always eaten a lot. I was skinny, although not healthy, a few years ago when I sat down literally all day. So I'm not so sure these studies are accurate. I can eat all I want and not gain anything.
She's probably blessed with a smaller appetite. Like the girl version of the guys who have to "force themselves" to eat enough when they're trying to bulk up in the gym.
I think I wrote in your previous mytake that I think a metabolism problem can affect someone's weight loss. Does this mean metabolism in general doesn't affect weight gain or weight loss?
There are short-term effects of semi-starvation and starvation (including anorexia nervosa and so on), but (1) those are short-term effects, and (2) those effects have as much to do with nutrient partitioning -- i. e., with how the ingested calories are parceled out and distributed -- as they do with bodyweight regulation itself.
Ignorance all over... Their is such a thing. I've put my mind to it, kept a diary of what I eat, count my calories, drink water , and exercise and I'm still overweight. This has been a 6 month process. I've been to the doctors and everything checks out healthy except my thyroid but other than that nothing is wrong. I just have a slow metabolism. The doctor that ACTUALLY went to medical school and has a degree told me this.
Strange, I eat and don't move around much but I'm still 140 lbs. When I go to the gym I lose weight so I don't do it too often but I decided to give it another go and just eat more.

Would you agree or disagree that a person with a thyroid imbalance can affect a persons weight?

Thank you for clairafing. I love how you incorporated the mechanics of this with using an auto engine as an example
Well, I mean... digestion is LITERALLY combustion.
It's a classic combustion reaction -- organic fuel + oxygen in, carbon dioxide + organic waste products out.
Our bodies are, very literally, internal combustion engines. It's not actually an "analogy" -- it's literally true.
It just helps to break it down in a more understandable form. You are obviously very well read on this subject and well most of us aren't , so it really helped out
Cool, glad it did <3
It did clear up some grey areas I was left with yesterday. Thank you again , great take by the way

But I've become acustomed to saying I have a fast metabolism 😣
lolll
So now am I supposed to tell heavier people that my body just does more NEAT than theirs does?
Just doesn't roll of the tounge as nicely as saying "I have a fast metabolism" 😑
Yeah that's the problem with a lot of these things...
Perhaps anecdotal, but although I am in shape now, I have been skinny my whole life and have always eaten a lot. I was skinny, although not healthy, a few years ago when I sat down literally all day. So I'm not so sure these studies are accurate. I can eat all I want and not gain anything.
Tell that to my friend who eats chips nonstop, doesn't excerise, but still weighs 105lbs
She's probably blessed with a smaller appetite. Like the girl version of the guys who have to "force themselves" to eat enough when they're trying to bulk up in the gym.
Nah she eats as much as me, and is constantly eating
In that case, I'd strongly suspect that she's throwing a lot of it back up when no one's looking... are you sure that isn't happening?
Haha no, she doesn't do that. Like I said, just a really fast metabolism.
I mean... science has literally shown that such a thing does not exist. There has to be *some* other explanation.
There isn't, she is just like that
I think I wrote in your previous mytake that I think a metabolism problem can affect someone's weight loss. Does this mean metabolism in general doesn't affect weight gain or weight loss?
Long-term, no.
In this study it took just 1 week for metabolic rates to return to normal after semi-starvation was concluded:

I have fast metabolism and I'm not fat at all I have the perfect body. I'm 100% happy with my looks. Yay!
Great way to feel about yrself
Thanks I just think everyone should feel proud
How about that! I used to get heck for fidgeting all the time as a child.
Srsly...
that's why I specifically dedicated that last "I see ya" to those elementary school teachers ahah
More often then not at school
Ignorance all over...

I knew it doesn't exist, I hate how people keep trying to make up things that don't really exist lol.
I am very fidgety so I will take that as a good thing - Enjoyable and educational take

Lol... I got the guy I wanted, but, I still try my best to "get" him again, every day. <3
Aww, i wish you both a long and happy life. :) <3 You're a real inspiration
Thank you sweetheart, appreciate the kind words.
Hah! And here my mother is always telling me to stop bouncing around the house.
As someone who bounces their leg all the time (including right now), I like this.
