Ever since the venom of the Temple Viper Snake was placed into a pot of an anti-aging daily moisturizer manufactured by Planet Skincare in the late 2000's, countless other skincare products have followed suit and the number of riders on this rather bizarre bandwagon continues to grow.

Although the beneficial wrinkle effect of snake venom has been proven, skincare experts remain skeptical, saying that although the venom irons out the wrinkles, the concentration and amount introduced into skin is also a major determinant of the effect. Some specialists go further to explain that several applications throughout the day may be necessary to keep the wrinkle from caving in.

Will snake venom dominate the anti-aging skincare market soon?

Truth is, many anti-aging products already carry and emulate what Planet Skincare has started a little less than a decade ago. But, if it’s a question of dominating the market for anti-aging skincare, well, there is generally more future research and conclusive evidence required for snake venom to lead the rally to ageless skin.

Therefore, don’t expect snake venoms to replace regular skincare products anytime soon. So far, the peptides, hyaluronic acid, Coenzyme Q10, and the like are still on an equal footing with snake venom to become the next gold standard in skincare.

Fact is, even though several side effects have already been highlighted concerning the use of retinoids, particularly for prolonged periods of time, products that contain retinoids continue to enjoy the top spot in anti-aging skincare — and, for good reasons. By far, retinoids are the most studied wrinkle ingredient and have been proven many times to inhibit and reverse even deep-seated wrinkles. For snake venom, the road is still wide and long but, the potential is certainly present.
