I am asking because I recall a friend of mine used to say that those who are suffering from depression like to write more than those who aren't.
She told me she had received quite a number of hand-written letters from her friends who are depressed and those letters are so full of emotions that she sometimes hesitated to read them as they would bring tears to her eyes.

False. I express my optimism and happiness all the time, in both the spoken and the written. I'm notorious for mushy thank-you cards, b-day cards, and Valentine's day notes. Here on GAG, I find myself telling total strangers I believe in them just because I have faith in the human spirit in general, even though I know a percentage of them will not overcome.

I consider myself as someone who does a lot of writing, and isn't depressed. I also write fantasy for oldschool D&D games that myself and some friends go through a couple times a month. So basically I'm shooting down this idea using the argument of 1 counter-example.

However, I do think your friend is right that maybe on /average/ those people have no outlet for their feelings (which probably contributes to their depression anyhow) and therefore feel compelled to write them.

How do you say "wo3 de ying1 wen2 tui4 bu4 le " in English? I often hear people say "My English deproves". Is there really such a word as "deprove"?

"My English has worsened" is probably the best translation and the most standard way of saying it. More 'pedestrian' ways of saying may be "My English has fallen/dropped off", "My English has taken a dive", and so on.

I don't think we have a deprove. This reminds me of a funny translation actually, in a Japanese anime response to a popular advertisement they say 'deculture' (there is no such word lol).

I think that's really true, in my experience. All of my depressed friends write more. I write a lot, and am depressed too (although it's just my default state, as I've been depressed since I was around 8).

Depends upon the person and why they are experiencing depression. Some people in depression do write lots as a method of venting whereas others try to bottle it up and repress it. I know that in my numerous, about once a month lasting a week, depressive phases i often try to ignore everything-but if i get the chance i will vent everything to someone i can trust just to offload some stress.

True, if you are happy, why write your emotions or thought down, no need you are happy.

So yes, depressed people are better writers, but no need to get a depression.
