Anonymous(30-35)+1 yYes, too much sleep is obviously bad for you, just as much as too little sleep is. 11 hours is not THAT bad, but you should really start going to bed earlier at night. Going to bed at 6 am all the time won't do anything but fuck up your entire sleeping schedule. What's the point in waking up at (around) dinner time? You won't get anything done during the day, and before you know it, it's night again.
A couple of years ago, I used to be like you during the summer. I'd go to bed at 7-8 am and then sleep all day. I thought it was fun at first, but then it became a problem. It was so hard for me to break that pattern, so once school started again, I was a complete zombie for the first month. I had turned my sleeping schedule completely upside down, and it was so mentally straining for me. Yet I kept doing it. I did it for like 3 summers in a row, and I ended up getting a bunch of problems. Every time I went back to school, it took me even longer to get back into the swing of things. And here I am, 3 years later, with a bunch of sleeping problems. Of course my sleeping problems depend on a few other things as well, but I'd say that the fact that I used to stay up all night was definitely one of the leading causes as to why I have these problems now. It's not worth it, trust me. You should go to bed at 2 am (the latest) so that you can wake up at 10 am and feel refreshed. Really, you're not doing anything but fucking with your head and wasting the days on sleeping.04 Reply- +1 y
"too much sleep is obviously bad for you"
How?
Opinion Owner+1 yWell, short term it makes you drowsy. It makes you react slower than you normally would. You're less efficient. As for long term, oversleeping has been linked to several different medical problems. Like littlesally said, it can cause depression. And if you suffer from hypersomnia, it can actually be seen as a disorder.

I do think that's a bit of a "correlation does not imply causation" thing. What if depressed people are more likely to be less agile to wake up and actually do things? Insufficient sleep is certainly not any better for your digestion nor your brain either.
Opinion Owner+1 yToo much of anything is never good. And I never said that insufficient sleep is better.

I think it is honestly. I just recently started this pattern of sleeping at 5-6am and waking up between the hours of 1-5pm. It makes me feel slower and maybe once in a while I'll encounter a head rush. Sleeping long feels REALLY good, but I think the minimum of 8 hours is enough. The plus side would be having more time to do things throughout the day without the screwed up schedule.

+1 y11 hours is certainly healthier than the 6-7 or even 4 that some people pull off.
However, please note that the body is meant to adapt to a cycle in which it's dark outside while you sleep, and light outside when you're not. If this is not maintained, then your hormones get messed up and sleep won't be refreshing at all (there is a certain hormone that helps sleeping which is produced only in the dark).
Also, once you get deadlines and a time schedule at which you need to be at a certain place at like 10 AM, then it truly becomes a hassle and you'll get yourself to reset anyways.12 Reply- +1 y
Yes, thanks. I tend to mix it up with another one called melanin which is what is responsible for skin color, which is why I went a "better safe than sorry" approach.
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yIts ok that you wake up at 5 PM but to answer we need to know when do you go to bed?
06 Reply- +1 y
Yes I agree with this guy. Need to know when you go to bed.
- +1 y
Ahahah erm good question... Usually 6 am
>.<
Opinion Owner+1 yYes its is bad to sleep at 6 AM and wake up at 5 PM o. O
I would say you can go sleep at 6 AM and wake up at 2-2.30 PM also can take a 1/2 an hour nap anywhere between 9-11 PM if you feel like. If you wanna kill extra time that you gonna be saving make an account at steampowered. com currently some awesome game titles are at discount (don't worry they have every genre not just racing and fighting). Enjoy... the night owls rock ;D.
Opinion Owner+1 yBy the way your eyes make me dream, nice eyes.
Opinion Owner+1 yAlso forget about what people are saying here that you should change your sleep timing from what you have been following because there is enough medical and scienfic proof that their are two type of people 1. Day person 2. Night person. You are a night person so no need to change yourself just coz people lack the knowledge and advising you anything just coz they feel its right. Also leaders do what they feel good doing and what feel right for them while followers just follow coz they don't have courage enough to question the norm which makes them a follower for life. Enjoy..

Thank you for your help! And thanks for saying I have nice eyes :p

+1 yYes, of course it's bad. It's bad for your digestion, for your social life and for your overall health in general.

plus, it can lead to extreme laziness (even though it already sounds like it did) and depression.
- +1 y
Social life? Don't have much of one and I am not that lazy... >.< :3
- +1 y
But that's the problem... this is why you don't have much of a social life... (ad least one of the reasons).
- +1 y
I don't like many people... It's so awkward >.< I don't really need one, do I?
- +1 y
One what?
A friend?
People feel better when they have friends. -true ones, not fake friendships... - +1 y
Yea but where do you get true friends now a days, everyone has their own hidden agenda in befriending the other. Moreover if you feel good by yourself you don't need someone else to make you feel better which is kinda depending on someone else for our own peace of mind. Also when this person on whom we were dependent to feel good betrays us or leaves us it brings more pain and suffering for life than the amount of good feeling they gave us. So @Asker I don't really think if you can learn to feel good by and for yourself you really need anyone. Most people are selfish they will use, hurt or betray you when they see doing it will be beneficial for them.
- +1 y
Although this is true to an extent, college is a great place to meet true and lasting friends.
Besides, who would depend on anyone ever? Friends are for support, and yes, they can help you as well as you can help them. Reciprocity.
A person can have true friends and still be independent.
By your reply here, I can tell that you don't have friends and you don't sound like a happy person... - +1 y
lol I am happy just coz I don't have (many) only 4-5 friends what makes you think I am not happy just may be coz I pointed some negative side of selfish relationships that people make now a days? Had many of them and I can make 50 friends in a day if I want to but I am amongst the people who value quality much more than quantity. Quality which can not be expected from a relationship the sole existence of which is because of something that someone needs from you (been through college life the worst people ever, manipulative and self centred. Ones who say they accept criticism but when you criticize them for their own good they take not even a single second to play defensive. Ones who say they seek true friends but in real need someone who is a partner in crime and accept whatever wrong they do with anyone/anything.

It's different in every culture... college experience...
I found 3 best friends there... been together ever since. =)
So you do agree that having friends makes you happy? Then why would you suggest the asker stays alone?
Kind of a selfish and self-righteous point of view.
I presume the girl that asked this question is smart enough to distinguish real people from selfish, bad ones. - +1 y
Bad for your digestion? I think it's quite the opposite, actually.
- +1 y
No... if you sleep for too long your metabolism plummets and your digestion slows down... a lot.
Also, you should't sleep right after a meal - turns into fat.
+1 yIt's okay if you over sleep once in a while. Like when you do a lot of physical activity the previous day. But doing it every day is not a good thing.
01 Reply- +1 y
I don't do it every day, and I will keep in mind that I need to do more physical activity. Thank you :3
+1 yYeah I'm pretty sure it is. I used to think that as long as you're getting 8 or 9 hours of sleep, you're good but sleeping from 11:00pm to 8:00am isn't the same thing as sleeping from 4:00am to 1:00pm

+1 yi think your body clock is screwed.. google more about it on how to "reset" it. :)
01 Reply- +1 y
People tend to say not to sleep at night, but in reality you just end up falling asleep at like 2 PM, wake up at 10 PM and end up even worse than before.
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yYes, too much sleep IS bad for you. Just like not enough sleep is bad for you. It throws off your clock and makes your brain slower and your functioning less than stellar.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yOnly problem is not being able to sleep the next night. But generally sleep does good for the body and the mind, and if you have slept a lot you feel less stressed and that does good too

Agreed. I wish I had my window blinds back so I could sleep past 7 AM during the frickin' summer. Who the hell thought curtains are sufficient? Makes me wanna live deep within a cavern or something. With doors. Three doors. Made of titanium, steel and wood.

Good question... Why do you sleep at night?
Opinion Owner+1 yBecause I have work and school during the day.
- +1 y
Ah, yeah I don't really know why...
- +1 y
The body was designed to sleep at night as I mentioned in my answer, it's just not about social necessities :D
