I'bve been napping and I normally don't. It's becoming a habit if I dont stop myself. I normally get 5 hours of sleep and then some more early morning. Maybe it's the darkness that comes sooner, or that my cat wakes me up too soon. I'm seeing a sleep doctor for it.
When getting older, humans tend to naturally sleep less. When I was young I needed about 10h. Now, at 68 years, 6-7 hours is more than enough. Nevertheless, digestion takes more energy in older people than in young ones, which leads to taking somewhere in the afternoon a nap. When I take that kind op nap, it's about 2 hours.
My doctor said that thus the real number of hours of sleep that need to be taken into account is the sum of the night hours of sleep plus the few ones taking a nap... Ultimately that means less sleep during the night, and more during the day, which is by the way, according scientists, an atavism dating back to the dinosaurs... ;0)
By the way and only for the record, birds, the direct descendents of dinosaurs, nearly always take a nap after having eaten...

more than seven hours is too much for me... it gives me headaches, and I woke up feeling all wonky, lol
I don't think you have really anything to worry about. Doctors recommend a least 8 hours of sleep a night but since your sleep is being broken, I would say taking naps is just your bodies way of needing a bit more sleep. Maybe try and stop your cat from waking you up when they do, or if you can try and go to be an hour earlier.

12 hours for adults, 14 hours for teenagers.
I'm not sure there is such a thing as too much sleep. I always do what my body and mind requires. Rages anywhere between 6 hours to 10 hours.
